The theft of autos, catalytic converters, trucks, construction equipment, and outdoor assets continues to throttle up as criminals focus on valuable parts and components. Vehicle theft nationwide surpassed one million stolen vehicles for the first time since 2008, according to statistics by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). Parts were also pinpointed for black market resale: catalytic converter theft ticked up 1,200% over the last three years.

iDter technology is making a difference, stopping intruders in its tracks. Technological Niō Guardian units rooted in high-definition video surveillance embedded with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and aggressive deterrence capability are designed to provide real-time security against unwanted intrusions.

Intrusion protection has turned proactive, deterring intruders with detection that’s intelligent and immediate yielding faster situational awareness and response than hired personnel who come at a high cost. And let’s face it, depending on the size of the facility, no guard or officer can be everywhere at once, so security gaps will occur.

iDter’s Nio Guardians act as security guards but in contrast, are positioned on buildings and light poles to cover every square foot of a property and confront trespassers within seconds of arrival. The objective is simple: prevent intruders from accessing a facility, stealing property, or causing damage.

Colorado’s largest Cummins dealership, MDI Truck Parts, and Service installed intelligent Niō Guardians to protect client’s trucks parked at the service centre, as well as its fleet of trucks. Ted Flageolle, MDI Truck Parts, and Service Support said iDter’s AI-based, active deterrence system automatically detects trespassers.

“We receive notifications with video clips on our phones when there is activity on our property and iDter live monitors the site which gives us confidence that we are being protected,” Flageolle said.

iDter Niō Guardians are positioned around the protected premises to detect intrusion with a powerful high-resolution camera with a wide-angle lens, multiple motion detectors, quad-core computer intelligence, omnidirectional speakers, a microphone, and powerful LED lights for illumination and red/blue strobing.

When a late-night intruder is detected, Niō activates an array of programmable deterrence measures, including instantaneous illumination of 10,000 lumens of multi-directional LED floodlights, blinding strobes of red and blue LEDs, piercing sirens, situation-appropriate voice-down warning messages, and intimidating sound effects.

Events are monitored in real-time to ensure deterrence actions are successful, and if not, a video-verified alarm is sent to a UL-listed, Five-Diamond Certified central station for dispatch of authorities through 911 operators.

DTI Trucks in the Denver area were plagued by thieves targeting catalytic converters, truck parts, and entire vehicles. Owner Todd Carlson installed smart Niō Guardian nodes on buildings and on commercial light poles to cover areas targeted by trespassers. The smart guardians detect intruders and send audible and visual warnings, including red and blue strobes and 120 dB alarm sounds.

“Thieves don’t stick around long when immediately confronted within seconds of trespassing on the property,” said Carlson. “Once we understood the effectiveness of the protection, we installed iDter Niō Guardians at our second dealership.”
