Akershus Kollektivterminaler (AKT FKF) manages key transportation hubs in the Oslo region, including the prominent Oslo Bus Terminal and Aker Brygge Ferry Terminal.
These facilities facilitate over 450,000 passenger journeys daily, highlighting the importance of safety and efficient operations. Recognising the need for comprehensive surveillance, Lillestrøm Bus Terminal, one of its significant hubs, has been upgraded with advanced AI security solutions from VIVOTEK.
Prior to the implementation of VIVOTEK’s solutions, Lillestrøm Bus Terminal faced typical challenges found in busy transport environments. Limited visibility, especially in crowded areas and around bus platforms, hampered effective safety management.
Blind spots behind buses presented substantial safety risks, increasing the likelihood of accidents during bus departures. This situation was exacerbated by the lengthy process of incident investigation and the high maintenance costs associated with outdated systems. These issues underscored the need for an updated, intelligent surveillance system that could improve safety and efficiency.
VIVOTEK’s solution, installed by Nimbus Fiber AS and supported by Vicon Norway AS, provides a modern foundation for security through integrated AI technologies. The new system enhances safety by combining expansive indoor and outdoor monitoring with AI-powered search capabilities. This includes panoramic CC9391-HV 180° AI cameras inside the terminal for wide-area coverage and IB9387-EHTV-V3 AI cameras outside to monitor critical zones such as bus platforms and parking areas. This setup enhances overall situational awareness and aids in rapid incident response.
To minimise risks at bus platforms, RX9502 Video Receivers have been deployed to give drivers real-time visual access to their blind spots. This system replaces traditional PCs, reducing costs and maintenance requirements while improving system reliability with low-latency video streaming. The centralisation of monitoring through a VIVOTEK NVR and VSS Server supports long-term scalability and efficient operations, with VORTEX Connect anticipated for future integration to facilitate seamless expansion and data sharing across terminals.
The introduction of VIVOTEK’s AI solutions at Lillestrøm Bus Terminal has yielded several advantages, such as enhanced safety for passengers and drivers, better visibility of high-risk areas, swift incident investigation, and a low-maintenance system that supports future expansions.
Jafar Altememy, CEO of AKT, and Roy Helge Solvang, Project Manager at AKT, expressed satisfaction with the project’s outcomes, stating, “This project has delivered exactly what we were looking for: improved passenger and driver safety combined with a solution that is scalable and future-proof.”
