Suprema has secured the ISO/IEC 42001 certification, marking a significant milestone in the realm of Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). This certification underscores Suprema’s commitment to a robust AI governance framework within its access control solutions, ensuring that such systems are developed, managed, and continually enhanced according to an international standard.
Unlike product performance benchmarks, ISO/IEC 42001 focuses on the organisational structure governing AI. This includes policies, accountability, risk management, and oversight critical to the effective management of AI systems. For Suprema, this certification specifically pertains to the AI applications in biometric authentication and identity verification within the BioStation Series, BioEntry Series, and BioStar Platform.
The attainment of this certification required a thorough assessment by an independent, accredited third-party entity, offering an objective validation of Suprema’s AI governance. For enterprise, government, healthcare, and financial sector customers, this transparency supports procurement processes, particularly as regulations and governance requirements in public sector selections become more stringent.
Currently, Suprema integrates AI into its access control systems to enhance the speed and accuracy of biometric recognition. With the ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the company’s governance structure is prepared to accommodate expanding AI functionality while adhering to stringent review and accountability standards. This framework aligns with evolving regulatory landscapes like the EU AI Act, which will impose obligations based on AI risk classifications.
Prior to achieving ISO/IEC 42001, Suprema was already certified under ISO/IEC 27001 for information security and ISO/IEC 27701 for privacy management. The new certification consolidates these aspects, presenting a unified approach to security, privacy, and AI governance.
