HID has announced the successful integration of its hardware-based HID ATOM™ document reader and HID U.ARE.U® facial recognition module with Soloinsight’s CloudGate™ visitor management and physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform, enhancing the self-service visitor check-in system from Connected Technology Solutions (CTS).

This advancement is aimed at bolstering security processes for global enterprises and critical infrastructure facilities by enabling them to verify visitor identities before providing access credentials, ensuring a consistent and traceable visitor management system.
Facilities like hospitals, data centers, offices, and logistics hubs typically welcome hundreds of contractors, vendors, and visitors daily.

Nevertheless, many check-in procedures offer limited verification, often relying merely on the name presented. This poses a security risk as visitors can input any name into a tablet or display a photo ID that staff may be unable to verify, leading to badges potentially being issued to individuals misrepresenting their identities.

In environments that are regulated or present high risks, such lack of verification may result in unauthorized access, creating vulnerabilities in audit trails during incidents and compliance failures by not being able to confirm the presence and timing of individuals on-site. The integration of document authentication, facial verification, and visitor management into a unified solution optimizes visitor processing, reduces the necessity for manual identity checks, and ensures comprehensive records for compliance and investigation purposes.

Visitors are pre-registered in CloudGate by their hosts, and an email invitation containing a QR code is sent to them. During check-in, visitors scan the QR code and confirm their identity using the HID ATOM document scanner, which is capable of reading passports, driving licenses, and mobile IDs. Live facial verification is performed by HID U.ARE.U Face Module, which dismisses any scans that fail to match the identity document or do not involve a live face.

Upon identity verification, the check-in process is recorded in CloudGate with comprehensive visitor records, aiding security personnel in maintaining thorough records of visitor activities for investigations, reporting, and compliance. The system is built to ensure it meets the documentation and audit requirements of over 40 regulatory frameworks, including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001.

The HID ATOM offers robust identity assurance by capturing encoded data strips on various identification forms such as passports and IDs, recognizing barcodes, and detecting specific document security features, which phone cameras often miss. As such, visitors can seamlessly navigate the check-in process without changing devices or lanes, as one HID ATOM reader handles different credential types. Furthermore, CloudGate overlays existing setups, supporting roughly 30 physical access control system (PACS) connectors and over 150 integrations across IT, HR, IAM, and SIEM systems, enhancing the capacity of current HID deployments.

Manufactured in CTS’s Wisconsin facility, this technology is U.S.-made and supported by enterprise-grade services including a three-year warranty, specialised technical support, and ADA-compliant installation services.
