Vuwall, a technology leader in video wall control systems and unified visualisation solutions, has delivered state-of-the-art control room hardware and software for the control room of DESFA — a government natural gas utility organisation in Greece.

Installed by integration firm Avidex SA, the Vuwall system includes its video wall controllers and advanced video wall management software in order to streamline, control, and visualise the incoming flow of information from the national natural gas transmission system and other sources necessary in achieving this task.

“Vuwall is key to DESFA’s operations,” said Dimitris Dermon, Owner of Avidex. “We were able to offer a lower total cost of their video wall solution while dramatically increasing their satisfaction and reducing the response time due to the reliability and high-quality video wall processing of the Vuwall ecosystem.”

Vuwall was critical in meeting the control room challenges presented by DESFA. Only with high-quality and cutting-edge control room solutions are operators able to see the multitude of sources that help them monitor and manage resources, power and utility generation, transmission, and distribution. This includes hardware inputs, IP streams (CCTV), and special third-party supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, Vivavis’ Power Supply Grids High-Leit human-machine interface (HMI). With a mission to provide 24/7 reliability for secure and effective operations, Vuwall’s hardware and software components are designed to achieve unified control and to process and transmit critical data for reliable monitoring.

For DESFA, Avidex installed 16x 55″ Samsung displays in a 2×8 video wall arrangement. Driving the video wall are two Vuscape 280 controllers (one for redundancy) and Vuwall’s advanced video wall management software. User-friendly, future-proof, reliable, and scalable, Vuwall’s high-performance video wall processing and management solutions are ideal for control rooms.

They allow operators to easily control and distribute all content sources to the video wall with the utmost flexibility, thanks to the full-featured management software. The Vuwall ecosystem ensures the ability to gather data from sensors, devices, vehicles, and other third-party technology critical to utility operations centers. It is also interoperable with SCADA software, allowing for efficient monitoring and control of field devices and sensors at remote sites — all from one central location.

Vivavis’ Power Supply Grids High-Leit HMI are installed on the Vuscape video wall controllers, allowing the video wall to be used as an independent HMI and the video wall functions to be integrated within the High-Leit software virtual desktop. Its main functions allow one operator at a time to take control of the video wall HMI, or for an operator to open a display, alarm list, event list, etc., from their operator workstation directly on the video wall — without taking control of the video wall HMI. In addition, the video wall controller is integrated with the Active Directory domain. Thus, the GPOs of the HMI software are automatically applied to the controller, including the ports that can be opened.

“The installation at DESFA demonstrates how Vuwall’s control room solutions are perfectly suited for the utilities sector,” said Eric Hénique, EVP of International Sales at Vuwall. “With Vuwall, the control room is operating at peak performance with the system delivering the readiness and redundancy essential to its operation. The operations team can see the status of a variety of sources, including hardware inputs, IP streams, and SCADA, with incredible ease and dependability optimised for real-time throughput — providing reliable 24/7 operations. We thank our partner, Avidex, for this successful deployment.”
