Technology and weapons development company Axon has announced it has acquired smart airspace security solutions provider Dedrone. The acquisition “unites two companies with a shared mission to improve public safety and national security by staying ahead of persistent and escalating threats, enabling faster, more effective responses and ultimately protecting more lives in more places,” according to a blog post on Axon’s website announcing the acquisition.

“Dedrone’s smart airspace security technology integrates with Axon’s public safety platform to enable true drone as first responder (DFR) programs and protect against unauthorised drone threats,” the blog post says.

“With Dedrone’s technology now part of the Axon ecosystem, we’re advancing how we leverage and protect against drones to keep everyone safe with a greater ability to prevent incidents before they escalate.”

Aaditya Devarakonda, CEO of Dedrone, says company leaders are “thrilled to finalise the acquisition with Axon and look forward to working together to leverage Axon’s incredible ecosystem alongside our award winning technology.”

“Dedrone remains committed to protecting the world from malicious drone activity while enabling good drones to fly, which aligns well with Axon’s mission to Protect Life—a shared vision that has served as the root of our strong partnership over the last four years,” he says. Dedrone leadership will remain the same, and the company will continue to operate as its own entity, says Devarakonda.

“Working in lockstep with Axon, we plan to leverage this acquisition to enhance our capabilities to safeguard our airspace and protect more lives in more places,” he says.
With Axon DFR (drone as first responder), Dedrone’s airspace awareness technology, DedroneBeyond, extends this capability, enabling drones to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) without the need for human visual observers, according to the Axon blog post.

“This innovation allows drones to fly farther, faster and operate in more challenging conditions and areas previously difficult to access, reducing response times and improving situational awareness,” the post says.

Dedrone’s AI-powered airspace security systems safeguard large-scale events, airports, critical infrastructure and even military bases and defense operations from unauthorised drone activity.

“As drone usage rises, so does the risk of airspace incursions that could disrupt operations or pose serious safety risks,” according to the Axon blog post. “With Dedrone, public safety and defense teams can detect, track, and, when necessary, neutralise rogue drones in real time, ensuring both public spaces and sensitive areas remain secure.

“Additionally, Dedrone’s battle-tested technology is actively serving governments and defense agencies worldwide, offering critical protection against evolving threats,” the post says. Axon and Dedrone “are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in public safety and national security,” according to the Axon blog post. Our combined technologies, supported by a strong partner ecosystem, allow customers to observe, communicate and act with unprecedented speed and precision — delivering faster, smarter and safer solutions for first responders and forces around the world.”
