IDEMIA Public Security and Trinsic have announced a collaboration to promote the adoption of mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) across the United States. By collaborating, Trinsic will act as the acceptance layer for mobile credentials issued by IDEMIA Public Security, facilitating secure and seamless online acceptance of mDLs during onboarding, authentication, and identity verification processes.
The partnership will initially support mDL acceptance in five U.S. states, including New York, Arkansas, Iowa, West Virginia, and Kentucky, with plans for further expansion. IDEMIA Public Security’s Civil Identity business is the leading provider of mDLs in the United States, having deployed most state-backed mobile ID applications nationwide. These mobile credentials empower millions of residents with secure and interoperable identity verification options suitable for airports and various businesses.
Despite their enhanced security and privacy features, broad acceptance of mobile driver’s licenses is still required for widespread adoption. Trinsic’s Identity Acceptance Network enables IDEMIA to enhance the utility of existing mobile IDs, reaching more corporate, enterprise, and regulated sectors, thus accelerating the adoption process.
The upcoming solution launch will allow thousands of businesses connected to Trinsic’s digital ID gateway to accept mDLs alongside other digital IDs, such as European eIDs and OEM wallets. This initiative simplifies the process for businesses and provides users with more identity verification options.
Matt Cole, CEO of IDEMIA Public Security, emphasised, “This partnership is about more than simply enabling more businesses to accept mobile driver’s licenses. Trinsic’s network helps us fulfill our mandate to the jurisdictions that entrust us with critical infrastructure—delivering greater value for their constituents while enabling our growing commercial customers with a more comprehensive suite of identity and biometrics services.”
As mDLs and digital IDs gain traction, acceptance is sometimes hindered by fragmentation. Trinsic’s platform streamlines this by accessing more than 50 digital IDs globally. IDEMIA’s Mobile ID apps are now included, making Trinsic the first to support every remote verification-capable digital ID in the U.S.
“This partnership demonstrates how quickly digital ID acceptance is accelerating,” noted Riley Hughes, CEO of Trinsic. “By combining IDEMIA’s deployment capabilities with Trinsic’s network, we’re enabling secure, interoperable adoption of mDLs, building a future-proof solution.”
The partnership aligns IDEMIA and Trinsic in their mission to enhance digital ID awareness and adoption. It supports IDEMIA’s ongoing regulatory and policy efforts related to mDLs. Both companies plan to provide demonstrations, educational content, and events over the coming months to showcase mDL functionality and prepare organisations for implementation.
As digital credentials gain momentum at both the state and federal levels, this partnership marks a critical step toward a digital trust ecosystem, giving individuals control over their data and allowing organisations to trust in these credentials.
