Proactive Video Security with AI and Cloud – From Reaction to Action

The security expectations of business owners are changing. Rather than simply recording video, today’s security cameras should be able to detect threats and trigger actions to help prevent incidents from escalating. With AI and a cloud-based video management system (VMS), this is now possible, according to Rishi Lodhia, Managing Director Europe at Eagle Eye Networks.

Many organisations still face limitations with traditional video surveillance setups:
● They store enormous volumes of video that are never analysed or used for business intelligence.
● Staff are required to monitor endless live video streams — a tiring, error-prone task.
● By the time critical incidents are noticed, it is already too late.
● Long-term patterns — such as repeated trespassing attempts or unusual traffic — remain invisible without AI analysis.

AI transforms this process. Today’s cloud-based video management systems use AI to recognise movement, classify events, and issue alerts based on context.

“A branch moving in the wind no longer sets off alarms. Instead, the system distinguishes between people, vehicles, and activity that matters – for example, a vehicle entering the car park after hours,” explains Rishi Lodhia.

“AI turns video streams into structured information within seconds. It highlights an intruder crossing a perimeter or unusual activity inside a restricted corridor, and delivers alerts directly to security teams. The cloud adds scalability, remote access, and constant updates without extra burden on local IT,” he adds.

An Eagle Eye video security system combines complementary capabilities such as:
● Perimeter monitoring – detect intrusions even in darkness, rain, or snow.
● Wide-area monitoring – track people and vehicles across large spaces with PTZ cameras, following suspicious activity in real time.
● Building security and access control – prevent intruders from entering by confirming that only authorised individuals gain access.

These capabilities all connect through the cloud to provide a complete, unified overview. AI enhances this by filtering out background activity and highlighting what matters.
Streamlining Security Operations

Cloud-based and AI-powered video surveillance can:
● Flag unusual behaviour — for example, a person entering a property after hours.
● Send targeted alerts directly to authorised personnel, including to their mobile devices.
● Enable video to be quickly searched, archived for investigations, and reports to be generated when needed.

This gives security staff the ability to respond faster, with evidence to guide every decision.
Lodhia also emphasises that cloud-based video management does not require a large upfront investment.

“New cameras can be added quickly, additional sites connected easily, and updates roll out automatically. Modern cloud video surveillance systems with AI scale on demand, adapt to new risks, and support compliance requirements by providing secure storage, audit trails, and data protection features,” he states. The Eagle Eye Cloud VMS is designed to meet the needs of today’s businesses, enabling security systems to move beyond passive watching to proactive intervention. “In doing so, it helps organisations protect assets, people, and operations more effectively,” concludes Rishi Lodhia.
