The Niagara Falls Water Board (NFWB) serves more than 18,000 accounts, including residential and businesses throughout Niagara Falls, New York and the outlying area.
With over 550 miles of water and sewer lines to maintain throughout their service district, they have a significant amount of automated, unmanned process facilities, including water treatment plants, boosters and water towers.

The security of the water treatment plants is a primary concern for NFWB – preventing intrusions and protecting assets against theft, which become an inconvenience and create a cost to the organization, leading to significant delays to the water process affects water services to their customers.

To assist in this area, NFWB sought a mobile video surveillance system capable of providing immediate alerts of any intrusion onto their sites, with visual verifications of the alert, enabling them to respond appropriately.

The automated water treatment sites are equipped with ‘state of the art’ diagnostic telemetry systems, which alert the operators to even the slightest change in the process.
The operational process often requires an operator to travel to the NFWB remote site locations to visually verify the water equipment, which sometimes results in longer journey times for the operator at inconvenient times of the day or night. Therefore, NFWB wanted a rapidly deployable video surveillance system with wireless remote connectivity to monitor their sites.

To meet their requirements, the Niagara Falls Water Board invested in WCCTV’s 4G IR Mini Dome pole camera to deploy across various facilities. WCCTV’s security cameras have the ability to transmit live and recorded footage via the 4G LTE network to the operations team at any NFWB location, allowing the team to remotely view and download the video any time from any device.

This functionality also allows operators to remotely view the water process, reducing the need for a physical site visit. The WCCTV 4G HD Mini Dome has video analytics capability that can detect intrusion, send an email and live video alerts to the NFWB Operations Centre, allowing them to verify security breaches and take immediate appropriate action.

“Having WCCTV’s High Definition 4G Mini Dome Cameras installed at numerous facilities means all areas can now be viewed on our phones, giving us the ability to view, assess, and immediately address any issues without being tethered to a computer monitor. The footage has proved to be of extremely high quality, making it easier to verify potential security breaches and reduce inconvenient site visits,” say officials from the Niagara Falls Water Board.
