Airplanes. Military personnel. Civil servants. Weapons. The list of people, property, and assets entrusted to military protection goes on and on. From small outposts to military cities that house hundreds of thousands of people, everything is a potential target. That’s why security systems must be ready to adapt as needed. Continual monitoring is a key component for any military security system.
The U.S. Air Force needed a reliable perimeter security solution to protect their flight lines and ground-based defense security operations. They sought to implement a rule-based system that would let them define the characteristics and movement of a possible intruder and program the details into a video motion detection system. However, they also needed to minimize the high number of false alarms common to that type of system. They hoped to be able to utilize existing ground-based radar detection sensors in conjunction with a video detection system to maximize intruder detection and minimize false alarms. The mission was to provide a cost-effective way for the U.S Air Force to accomplish this goal.
Honeywell employed the extensive integration and rule-based logic capabilities of the Vindicator® V5 Intrusion Detection System (IDS), coupled with the map-based, graphical user interface of Vindicator Command and Control (VCC), to provide the U.S. Air Force with the solution they needed. They integrated their existing ground-based radar sensors into the V5 IDS via an XML interface to extract geospatial data. Vindicator’s V5 IDS then correlated that information with the data being sent by the video motion detection system and formulated rules to filter out false alarm conditions.
Once the data is filtered and true intrusions identified, the V5 IDS sends the alarm information to VCC, providing audible annunciation and map-based display of alarm conditions to the system operator. The Benefit: By using rule-based logic to integrate the characteristics of both video motion detection and ground-based radar detection, Honeywell’s Vindicator V5 IDS solution can successfully identify intruders with a very high probability of detection and very low rate of false alarms. As the result of these unique interfaces, several other Department of Defense entities have proposed Vindicator solutions be installed in additional mission-critical locations.
