Everbridge, Inc., a global leader in critical event management (CEM) and national Public Warning solutions, has announced the selection by Spain to deploy its next-generation population alerting technology to help keep the country’s more than 120 million residents and visitors safe and informed in case of an emergency. Everbridge announced the contract award anonymously in a press release recently.
The new country-wide public alert system of Spain will include both Cell Broadcast coverage at the national level, as well as the publication of alerts via the Web and through mobile alerts, powered by Everbridge. The state-of-the-art alert system will reach 99% of the population of Spain, including 47 million residents and nearly 80 million annual visitors, through mobile network operators Telefónica, Vodafone, Orange and Másmóvil, while protecting the confidentiality and privacy of mobile subscribers.
In accordance with the EU mandate (Article 110 of the European Electronic Communications Code), all member countries should have a modern alert system for their entire population by June 2022. As indicated by the Spain Prime Minister’s Office in a recent press release, “the project is financed with the EU Recovery Plan subsidies and has been launched thanks to the agreement signed on July 8 between the ministries of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation with that of the Interior.” The deployment of public warning systems remains important to help reduce the impact associated with effects related to climate events, a topic Everbridge will speak about at the upcoming World Climate Summit in Glasgow.
“Our public sector support for the national alerting system in Spain serves as an extension of our work digitally transforming how organizations across the country can help save lives and keep their digital and physical operations running through one unified platform, mapping risk intelligence with the automated tools to manage the full-lifecycle of a crisis or disruption,” said Jose Manuel Villanueva, Director for Spain and Portugal at Everbridge.
More local, state, and national governments across the globe deploy the Everbridge population alerting solutions than any other provider, offering the ability to reach over two billion residents and visitors in more than 200 countries in case of digital threats: such as ransomware, cyber attacks, and IT disruptions; man made threats: such as geo-political, terrorist attacks, and industrial accidents; and natural disasters: such as floods, severe storms, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and wildfires.
“Everbridge’s Public Warning solution enables government organisations and public safety agencies to immediately connect with every person in an affected area during a critical event regardless of nationality, residency or mobile handset type,” said Vernon Irvin, Chief Revenue Officer at Everbridge. “Given the impact to public safety and economies around the world from the ongoing threat of digital and physical disruptions including cyber attacks, severe weather, or the ongoing effects of the pandemic, every national and state government can benefit from a modern and scalable platform to reach all citizens and visitors in times of crisis.”
Everbridge Public Warning leverages existing telecom infrastructure, with no opt-in required, to reach everyone within a geographic area to reduce disaster risk, support first responder communications, and analyse disaster communication effectiveness for subsequent mitigation activities. The platform is fully compliant with data privacy regulations including GDPR and allows public safety agencies to send an alert to any device within a few seconds without sharing any personal details, such as names or phone numbers.
