Motorola Solutions has finalized its $4.4-billion acquisition of Silvus Technologies Holdings, a mission-critical mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) developer based in California. A MANET is a wireless system where radios, computers, and unmanned aerial systems connect directly, forming a flexible, self-organizing network without fixed internet or infrastructure.
Silvus’ system enables secure data, video, and voice links across long distances, even in high-mobility environments. The technology supports capabilities that demand heavy data flows, offering resilience through self-healing networks that resist jamming and reduce the risk of detection.
Motorola said the acquisition comes as autonomous systems, including drones, vehicles, and robots, take on greater frontline roles. It plans to expand Silvus’ global reach by leveraging its scale and long-standing ties with government and public safety clients.
Motorola first announced its intent to absorb Silvus in May 2025, entering an agreement to purchase the company with upfront consideration. “This acquisition underscores our unwavering conviction that technology is the bedrock for protecting communities, securing borders and defending against today’s ever evolving threats, whether in the air, on the ground or in the water,” Motorola Solutions CEO and Chairman Greg Brown said last May.
“As a result, we’re now expanding our intelligent network footprint and powering next-generation security for those who stand on the front lines everywhere.”
