Manything, a British video monitoring software company, has joined forces with Hikvison, one of the largest manufacturers of CCTV cameras, to provide a fully integrated security system that can be controlled and viewed from the palm of your hand. Through just a few simple taps in the Manything iOS or Android app, a user can setup a comprehensive security camera network with no need for port forwarding or router configuration. Manything overcomes cybersecurity and bandwidth challenges associated with moving traditional CCTV systems to the cloud, according to the company, noting that “all Hikvision cameras running Manything are non-discoverable and have UPnP and NAT disabled. When videos are viewed they are transmitted over an encrypted TLS or HTTPS channel. Manything also intuitively adjusts frame rate, bitrate and resolution to ensure recorded events are sent to the cloud even in poor network conditions.” Manything, which stands for ‘monitor anything,’ was founded in 2012 and has attracted more than one million users globally.

“Cloud has quickly become a buzzword in the security industry; it provides an exciting opportunity to add new functionality and recurring revenue to traditional security systems,” James West, Manything CEO and founder said. “Our engineers visited Hikvision HQ in China to integrate Manything software with a range of their cameras—now their installers can offer cloud recording and remote viewing to their end customers.”

He pointed out that the Manything app has been “painstakingly developed” to offer the ultimate peace of mind for small and large businesses, as well as homeowners. Manything gives Hikvision users the ability to watch live feeds, access video stored in the cloud and remotely control their cameras from the smartphone app or from the Manything website.

“We’ve been working with the Manything team to help them integrate their cloud software with our latest platform of IP cameras,” Jason Yang, general manager, Hikvision UK, said in the announcement. “They provide a brilliant cloud storage solution, which can work alongside the Hikvision NVR for additional backup.”

According to Manything, the partnership with Hikvision is “game changing” for both installers and distributors in the security industry, as Manything’s service can work alongside an NVR for additional offsite backup or remove the need for a physical NVR completely; instead, users can easily save and view video content via the cloud. “On top of that, installers and distributors of Hikvision cameras can initiate a new recurring monthly revenue stream by reselling Manything subscriptions to their customers,” the company noted.
