Kentec has unveiled its Wireless Lockdown Notification System, developed to support public venues in adhering to the UK’s Martyn’s Law legislation and avoid significant penalties.
This system is aimed at enhancing public safety against terrorism threats by offering a prompt and reliable response solution for emergencies.
Martyn’s Law, named after Martyn Hett who tragically died in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, seeks to bolster the security of public spaces. Officially termed the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, it mandates over 180,000 venues in the UK to carry out risk assessments, create security plans, and develop procedures for terrorist attacks, including evacuations.
The law was sanctioned on 3 April 2025, with compulsory compliance by April 2027. Failure to meet the requirements could incur fines of up to £18 million or result in criminal charges, with enforcement conducted by a new regulatory body under the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
The Wireless Lockdown Notification System by Kentec offers a solution that is quick, reliable, and easy to implement. Leveraging Kentec’s extensive expertise in fire safety, the system enables venues to comply with legal requirements and safeguard individuals against terrorism.
Applicable for diverse environments, such as educational institutions, theater spaces, libraries, and corporate offices, the system boasts several key features:
● Fire system technology integration: Utilises Kentec’s reliable K-Mesh technology for dedicated lockdown measures.
● Instant activation: Allows immediate notification system-wide through simple switch control, facilitating swift lockdown procedures.
● Pre-recorded messages: Delivers three clear and precise lockdown messages, including options for lockdown, covert alerts, all-clear, or evacuation, ensuring clarity even in chaotic scenarios.
● Audible alerts: Produces up to 91dB(A) sound output at 1m, ensuring messages are heard in large or noisy venues.
● Indicator panel: Features integrated LEDs for clear visual alerts and status updates, aiding quick decision-making and efficient diagnostics.
● Self-healing network: Devices connect to the strongest signal, maintaining communication continuously.
● Long-lasting batteries: Devices offer up to 10 years of battery life, minimising maintenance needs.
● Simplified installation: Configured using Kentec’s K-Mesh software with minimal cabling for ease and speed of installation.
