To meet the demand for parking lots with charging stands for electric vehicles, the Ministry of Transport in Taiwan promulgated the “Regulation for the Parking sites with Electric Vehicle Charging stations” that reserves a fixed ratio on public parking stations for EV. Parking stations for electric vehicle charging should be built up in accordance with demand. This includes both public and private parking lots, which should be equipped, currently, with a ratio of more than 2% based on the total number of parking stations on each public or private site.

Shany Electronic, one of the members of TSSIA, has developed a solution to help meet these latest regulations and requirements due to the National Energy Conservation and Carbon reduction policy, as the use of electric vehicles is expected to grow rapidly.

As the numbers of electric vehicles parked in the basements of buildings is increasing, there is growing concern, as although the charging stands themselves do not include batteries, if a battery or batteries in an electric car are damaged, the temperature within the vehicle may rise to a dangerously high level during charging. This, according to Shany, could potentially cause a fire or even a risk of explosion.

Thus, the solution presented by Shany means that under such circumstances, thermal cameras would be placed next to the charging stands, offering real-time monitoring, in order to provide very early prevention of fire, when an electric vehicle is plugged in at the charging station.

And, according to the company, Shany’s thermal cameras and NVR products have already been selected and actually installed for use at EV charging sites in parking lots in many metropolitan cities in Taiwan
