Global networked video surveillance products provider Axis Communications has announced the release of the inaugural Axis Perspectives report, a “research-based publication examining the evolution of intelligent video and its expanding role.”

Backed by proprietary global research, expert insights and real-world use cases, the report “quantifies how intelligent video is enhancing security while increasingly driving safety, operational efficiency and business intelligence across industries,” according to the Axis Communications announcement.

The findings of the Axis intelligent video report reveal a clear inflection point: while security remains foundational, organizations are rapidly adopting intelligent video as a powerful business sensor, unlocking insights that improve performance, reduce costs and enable automation at scale.

Based on firsthand research and data analysis, the report “provides a strategic road map for how cameras are evolving into active contributors to enterprise decision-making, delivering measurable results in high-impact environments,” according to the company announcement.
For example, the report highlights BMW Group’s use of cameras to power artificial intelligence-driven quality inspection (AIQX). This application “enables precise, automated inspections that enhance product quality and operational efficiency,” the announcement says.

“Intelligent video is undergoing a fundamental shift—from monitoring what happens to actively informing how organizations protect people, operate and make decisions,” says Fredrik Nilsson, vice president, Americas, for Axis Communications, in the company announcement.

“With Axis Perspectives, we take a strategic, research-driven view of that evolution, bringing together global data, real-world deployments, along with a practical maturity model to help organizations understand where they are today and how to unlock the full value of video as a connected, data-driven business capability,” he says.

Key Axis Perspectives report findings:
● Expanding Business Impact: Use of video for business intelligence has nearly doubled in just one year (from 20% to 38%), while 42% of organizations now use it to drive operational efficiency.
● Evolving Customer Priorities: Infrastructure modernization is the leading driver for 64% of end users, with cybersecurity now cited as a critical priority by 44%.
● Accelerating Cloud Adoption: Cloud adoption in physical security is expected to jump from 27% to 44% within two years, reflecting a 17-point increase as new use cases gain traction.
● Demand for Platform Integration: Forty-one percent of customers now demand unified platforms, underscoring system integration as a key success factor.
These findings are explored in detail in the report, “providing organizations with the insights needed to build integrated, data-driven solutions that deliver meaningful value today and into the future,” according to the Axis Communications announcement.

Additionally, to support this, the report introduces a five-stage intelligent video maturity model, guiding enterprises from passive and reactive systems to proactive, predictive and ultimately autonomous operations, “enabling leaders to assess current capabilities and chart a practical path toward more effective strategies.”
