Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has selected TKH Security as its partner to install the company’s Park Assist Solution in the airport’s new Yellow (West) Garage boasting 7-floors and 7,150-spaces. This parking guidance system offers heightened safety, smoother travel, and improved garage monitoring for both passengers and airport operations.

As traveller volumes soar beyond expectations and safety concerns become more central to infrastructure planning, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas, is stepping up with transformative improvements, addressing airport safety, congestion, and capacity.

After setting new records year after year, including welcoming more than 21 million passengers through its gates in 2024, the addition of new infrastructure to handle the ever-growing passenger volume will be vital to the traveller experience at AUS. As part of its “Journey With AUS” expansion program, which includes doubling gate and terminal capacity, improving roadways, and increasing security and baggage handling capabilities, the airport is applying the same forward-thinking mindset to its parking facilities.

The Park Assist Solution will be installed in the airport’s new Yellow Garage to help heighten safety, smoother travel, and improve garage monitoring for both passengers and airport operations.

“When an airport is growing as fast as AUS is, every piece of the journey matters, especially parking,” said Jeff Sparrow, Director of Sales, North America at TKH Security. “Our Park Assist Solution provides operators visibility from within the parking facilities, helping to ensure a safer, more streamlined experience from the moment travelers arrive.”

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s new Yellow Garage will be equipped with the Park Assist Solution, an automated parking guidance system (APGS) purpose-built to improve the traveller experience. By easing congestion in and around the facility, directing drivers straight to open spaces, and reducing search times by up to 63%, the APGS ensures a smoother start to any trip. From busy business mornings to peak holiday travel, passengers can count on a faster, less stressful parking experience.

Often overlooked, parking plays a huge role in a traveler’s experience and can truly be a gamechanger for airports. As Laura Bayzle, a frequent traveller, noted after her experience with the Park Assist Solution, “If you’ve ever circled a parking garage at an airport—heart pounding, time slipping away, cursing under your breath —then you’ll understand why a green light above an open parking space might be the best travel upgrade I’ve experienced in years.”

The system is powered by the M5 smart sensor, which provides camera-based, streaming HD video that gives operators real-time awareness of activity in every monitored parking space. Mounted above driving lanes and equipped with dual CMOS cameras, each M5 sensor monitors up to six spaces at once with over 99% space occupancy accuracy. The customisable RGB LED lights guide drivers to open spaces, ADA spaces, EV areas, or premium zones, and reduces time spent searching for parking.

After breaking ground on this new garage in February 2025, progress continues to be made toward bringing this improved parking experience to AUS travellers. The first 3,000 parking spaces in the new Yellow Garage are slated to open in 2026. The Yellow Garage will be completed in full in 2027.
